1. Are You Proactive?

no-11

7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey is a great tool for business people but it is especially applicable for the branding industry. Whether you look at these habits through the lens of your personal life, your business, or your consumers, there is direct marketing insight in Mr. Covey’s 7 Habits that we should all consider in our daily lives.

The first habit is:

Be Proactive

The main point is that your life doesn’t just happen.  You design your life through the choices that you make.  When you are proactive, you are “response-able”.  Most importantly, proactive people focus on the things they can do something about.

When you look around your office at your co-workers what are they like?  Upbeat? Positive?.  If not, it is probably because they aren’t proactive.  This video by Stephen Covey is about “Carrying Your Own Weather With You”

It’s not just your co-workers, you also need to be proactive about your business.  There is often a tendency to be reactive with your products.  The competition is using a spokesperson so you want one too.  The competition just launched a new version that is ‘just for him’ so now you want to launch yours.  Why? Oh why? How can you differentiate and establish your product if you are just following the competitor’s lead and being a “me too” company.

To build a strong business and a strong brand, being proactive is a must.

How can you be more proactive in your life and in your business?
