It used to be that PR was all about sending press releases to the media and hoping that they would then tell your story, or at least their version of it, to the public.
Now, their are all of these new tools that have created new rules for new media. In addition to the media telling your story, you can now communicate directly with the public and use different forms of media to tell your story.
For example, when Domino's pizza had a problem with employees filming themselves doing gross things with the food and then posting it to YouTube, the CEO responded by posting his own video to YouTube. He communicated with the public directly through a medium that is visited millions of times each day.
There is no better way to build a brand than to change the conversation through an emotional connection utilizing the media where consumers spend their time.
